Bellows - Rubber, Sewn and Custom

Bellows offer a fast, economical solution to the problems associated with the ingress of dust and dirt into hydraulic cylinder rods and seals. For a relatively low cost, bellows not only protect valuable and expensive machinery, but also extend the working life, reducing down time and increasing productivity. Bellows can be made quickly and economically to suit your exact requirements. Full length zippers or similiar fixings may be incorporated into the bellow, incases where it will be difficult or too time consuming to dismantle the equipment for placement of the bellow. A wide range of materials and designs are available from Hydraulic RAM Repairs UK Ltd.

The main methods of creating protective bellows are rubber molding, sewing and welding.

Molded Rubber Bellows

Rubber Bellows, typically made from PVC, neoprene and polyurethane, are excellent for water-tight operations, and provide exceptional resistance to oil and other fluids. Most rubber bellows are normally made of nitrile rubber (NBR). Rubber bellows can be designed to protect against dust, water, oil, grease, acids, bleaches, spatter and pressure.

Sewn Bellows

Sewn bellows are a useful means of protecting rod shafts and seals. Wire reinforced bellows are an effective solution to high-temperature applications and operations requiring resistance to industrial contaminants. Sewn bellows utilize a sewn chain of fabric/synthetic and wire rings. Traditional fabrics have been supplemented with specially developed materials to counter contaminants; from everyday rust, dust and dirt to weld spatter; and temperatures from -60deg.C to +250deg.C. Food grade materials are also available.

Where it is not possible or practical to dismantle equipment, sewn bellows can be supplied split, ready for fitting around a shaft. The split is closed after installation using a 'tape and clip' joint.

Welded Bellows

Welded bellows provide a leak-tight seal and are suitable for a wide range of uses
